Brake Disc Skimming

We are the only car garage in Hemel Hempstead who provides and is fully equipped to carry out brake disc skimming. It can be a quality lower cost alternative to brake disc replacement as the only time brake discs need to be replaced rather than skimmed is when they reach minimum thickness.

We recommend skimming when:-

  • There is brake vibration or judder
  • Discs are corroded or rusty
  • Brake pads are changed but new discs are not necessary
  • Brakes feel spongy
The automatic surface machining of a disc is completed in around 4 minutes. The complete process takes less than 10 minutes per disc. Starting from £50 plus vat per axle.

There are a few signs to look out for:-

High pitched noise

If you regularly hear a high pitched screeching when you apply your brakes, this may be a warning that you need your brake pads replacing.

Brakes are less responsive

If you brakes seem to take longer to stop than normal or the brake sinks to the floor, this may indicate a fluid leak in your braking system.

If when braking you feel your car pulling you to one side, it could mean that your brake linings are wearing unevenly, and your brakes are in need of adjusting.

If you ever heard grinding when you push down on your brake pedal, it means that you have worn out your brake pads completely and should be heading straight to a garage.

It completely depends on circumstances. Some cars may last 70,000 miles other cars only 25,000 miles. It depends on how its driven, where its driven so many factors that your best bet is to watch out for the signs above and if in doubt pop down your local garage for a free brake check.

It takes between 60-90 minutes.

We cannot give a rough estimate it varies considerably as cars differ so greatly. To get a quote please call your local branch.
